Job DescriptionAs a member of the corporate IT team, the IT Systems Administrator will provide technical support to more than 600 employees globally, involving all aspects of Alamos’s IT servers, desktops, laptops, smart phones, network gear, helpdesk support, documentation and application management.

The Architecture Landscape:  ensuring that systems are catalogued, documented, and understood. The Portfolio Architect should also understand the business vision and future state for the systems in the portfolio landscape, understanding order dispensing workflow systems for sensitive data applications and their interdependencies. They should be able to articulate the path from the current state to the desired future state.  As applications are deployed into the landscape, or existing applications are modified, the Portfolio Architect should ensure that they align with the vision for both the portfolio and the entire enterprise.

Architectural Standards and Capabilities: The Portfolio Architect should ensure that standards are defined and used to maximize the speed and consistency with which decisions are made.  They should identify the opportunities for standards and reference architectures within their portfolio as well as in the enterprise. Where a standard does not exist, the Portfolio Architect should ensure that the solution being delivered can form the basis for new standards and capabilities.

Solution Delivery: The Portfolio Architect is accountable for the architecture and technical decision making process during the solution delivery process. The Dominion is engaged in a multi-year initiative to replace our core insurance applications with best in class package solutions and custom developed applications to address specific business needs.  The integration of these solutions is guided by a well established Enterprise Architecture that leverages leading models, methods and patterns.  

Our multi-faceted integrated systems environment is comprised of Java-based web applications, legacy mainframe systems, end-user client computing, and a business intelligence environment.  The web applications run in a WebSphere/Oracle environment on our AIX platform and are developed in Java following J2EE standards.  The legacy systems run in a CICS/COBOL environment on our z/OS mainframe.

SUMMARY

The Solutions Architecture team defines the architectural direction to ensure the appropriate and effective use of technology to support immediate and long term business needs.  The team of highly motivated architects apply their domain expertise as they lead and participate in strategy development, environmental analysis, opportunity identification, and solution architecture and design.

THE POSITION

The Information Technology Architect is responsible for the leadership, analysis and design tasks related to the development of enterprise solution architecture.   You will work with a range of people in business and IT as you lead and facilitate the development and use of our target solutions.

As a member of the Solutions Architecture team you contribute to the development of all styles and patterns of architecture solutions.  You are a seasoned systems professional who brings P&C insurance knowledge and solutions design experience to bear as you develop architecture assets. You have developed architecture solutions to address complex needs of the organisation, preferably at the enterprise level. You enjoy developing road maps that contribute to the evolution of the enterprise application portfolio from current to future state (as defined by the target architecture). Desired Skills & ExperienceExperience   
Minimum - eight years of progressive experience in information services covering a broad technical experience with a variety of application systems and technologies.  Minimum of three years in-depth experience designing and implementing information solutions. Experience should also include leading architectural development and system enhancements preferably in a large financial organisation for complex information systems.   

Education
Minimum - three year university degree in computer science, or equivalent experience.
